Soil Conditioners - Vital to keeping the soil healthy

12 July 2019
Soil Conditioners improve poor soil, or rebuild soils which have been damaged by improper soil management.

Soil conditioners are typically used to aerate the soil, loosen compacted soils, break up clay soils, improve water retention in the soil, raise the pH.  All of these will improve the nutrient delivery to the plant, whether it be by improved root structure, better moisture levels, or nutrient availabilty to the plant.

What are the main soil conditioners?

  1. Ag-Lime - which is high in calcium, and has a neutralising value. i.e. it reduces acidity /raises the pH level
  2. Dolomite - contains both calcium and magnesium and has a neutralising value.
  3. Gypsum - contains calcium and sulphur but has no neutralising value.

Which Soil Conditioner do you choose?

You will need to choose the soil conditioner suitable to your needs.  I.E. if you need to raise the pH and you only need calcium, then you need Ag-Lime.  However, if the pH is correct and you need calcium, then Gypsum.

We supply all 3 Soil Conditioners discussed above:

  • Ag-Lime - this we crush from the limestone rock that we blast at the minesite
  • CalMag - this we produce from a combination of our Marule Ag-Lime and natural Magnesite that we source from Central Queensland.
  • Gypsum - this we source from Central Queensland.  It is not a by-product of the making of plaster board as we are not yet convinced that the man made product does not have problems.

If you're looking for quality Ag-Lime products, get in touch with us to see how we can help.
